Doctrine Study

In this post we begin the 2022 Facebook study. We are starting with a look at Doctrine. This is a large topic so key understandings will be communicated here and sources and links provided for further reading.

Doctrine 1 – Bibliography (God’s Word)

• Inspiration of Scripture The doctrine of Scripture is fundamental because the Bible is our only source of Christian truth.

-Initiated by God “God initiated the disclosure and revelation of himself to mankind (Heb 1.1)”. We see the revelation of God in other forms such as creation but it is Scripture that is clearest and most thorough. “The written word is unique in that it is the only revelation of God that clearly declares man’s sinfulness and God’s provision of the Saviour”.

- All scripture is inspired: Hebrew 1:1, 2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20 – 21)etc God’s revelation in Scripture was given by means of inspiration. The Bible is not written by the imaginations of men but is given by God to humanity. This refers not just to God’s self-revelation (His revealing of Himself to us) but also indicates the process. 2 Timothy tells us that God ‘breathed out” His Word. In this the “Word of God was protected from human error in its original record by the ministry of the Holy Spirit (Deut 18:18, Matt 1:22).
